What Dual Radar does
Dual Radar shows two independent radar-style aircraft displays. Each radar can be centred on a different location and can use its own range, aircraft filter, labels, land outline and audio settings.
Radar controls
- Centre: choose My GPS Location or a preset airfield.
- Range: choose 5nm, 10nm, 25nm, 50nm, 100nm or 200nm.
- Filter: All Aircraft, Military/Training/Services, or Strict Military.
- Audio: enables soft radar bleeps for interesting aircraft.
- Land: shows or hides the faint coastline / land outline.
- Labels: shows or hides automatic military/training/services radar labels.
- ALL / BBMF / REDS: quickly switches the radar between all visible traffic, Battle of Britain Memorial Flight aircraft, or Red Arrows traffic.
- Station list: radar locations use the same preset location list as the main map.
Radar Mode
- Radar Mode maximises the radar display area, especially on phones and tablets.
- The page header, navigation buttons and aircraft lists are hidden to give a near full-screen radar display.
- The current radar station name remains visible on the radar display.
- The floating ↩ icon returns to the normal display.
- The floating ⚙ icon opens the Radar Controls panel.
Floating Controls
- Use the ⚙ icon to temporarily bring the controls back over the radar screen.
- The floating controls allow quick changes without permanently leaving Radar Mode.
- The floating panel includes the same ↩ and ⚙ icons so you can return to normal view or hide the panel again.
- This is intended for quick mobile use when you want to change range, filters, labels or radar centre and then return to the clean radar display.
Squawk Alerts
- 7700: General emergency.
- 7600: Radio failure.
- 7500: Unlawful interference / hijack.
- 7004: UK low flying.
- Squawk alerts are priority labels. They remain visible even when normal labels are switched off, while ordinary radar labels continue to work normally when enabled.
Labels
- Military, Training and Services aircraft can show radar labels as the sweep passes.
- In All Aircraft, civil aircraft remain as blips while interesting aircraft are labelled.
- Labels fade naturally to keep the display readable.
- Aircraft can also be selected directly on the radar display to show a temporary label.
Categories
- Military: operational military aircraft such as Typhoon, A400M, Voyager, Chinook, C-17 etc.
- Training: Grob Tutor, Prefect, UAS style traffic and similar.
- Services: Coastguard, Police, Air Ambulance and Rescue traffic.
- Government: Border Force, survey and similar government aircraft.
- Civil: normal civil and commercial traffic.
Display improvements
- Dynamic radar resizing adjusts automatically when the browser size changes.
- The radar sweep speed is time-based, so it remains consistent on phones, tablets and faster laptops.
- Mobile portrait and landscape layouts automatically optimise radar size.
- Radar displays are designed to remain circular during resizing and device rotation.
Locations
Preset locations are shared between Dual Radar and the main map, so both displays use the same station and watch-point list.
Navigation
- Back to Map: returns to the normal Aircraft Near Me tracker in the parent folder.
- Back to Dual Radar: returns to the dual radar display.
- Use My GPS Location: sets Radar 1 to your browser GPS location after permission is granted.
Notes
Dual Radar is a standalone experimental display and does not load the main tracker scripts. Recent versions introduce Radar Mode, floating controls, dynamic resizing, improved mobile support and time-based sweep animation.
Aircraft data depends on public ADS-B data sources. Some military, training or special aircraft may not transmit, may be delayed, or may appear with limited information.
